I had to drag myself out of bed this morning. I got up, had my bowel of cereal, and dove into 1 Timothy. I decided that’s the next book I’m going to read. Stern suggest reading a book in its entirety and not reading it with the mindset that it must contain something that is applicable to you today (though most times, it does). He challenges students to read books while understanding the target audience and time period. Doing so allows you to get important context on the scripture. 1 Timothy 1:15B-17 really stood out to me today. I love the way the CEV puts it. It says,
“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the worst. But I was given mercy so that in me, the worst of all sinners, Christ Jesus could show that he has patience without limit. His patience with me made me an example for those who would believe in him and have life forever. To the King that rules forever, who will never die, who cannot be seen, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”
I love this! My epic fails in life can totally be used by God as something that can aid in bringing someone to salvation! This doesn’t mean go and make a bigger fool of yourself, it is just reassuring to know that God’s power is really seen through my mistakes and shortcomings.
After breakfast, I headed to Animal Kingdom. I got there early so I went ahead and pulled my costume and got things all set. I changed into my basics and headed to warm ups. After that, I threw my stuff in the back of a van and headed to my set location. Again, felt the presence of God—I look up and it says “U + GOD” in the sky. I’m not even kidding. I actually said that! Apparently, it’s a pilot’s way of witnessing—very creative! So I headed to my first set. It went really well, though it was hot as blazes today. It was one of those days when you walk outside and immediately look for shade. I’m surprised no one could hear me panting in my costume! The day went swimmingly, and I wrapped up around 5 p.m. I headed back, cleaned up, started to cook dinner, realized I stuck the olive oil in the fridge, defrosted olive oil, finish up dinner, and just chilled. It was a good day today, but I am straight up exhausted and already ready for bed, and it’s only 8 p.m. What’s wrong with me?
I figured out today what I think is one of the most effective ways of witnessing here. Stay positive. Some of my fellow cast mates are so negative about everything. Everything out of their mouth is bad, and when a person continues to smile and stay positive it really stands out in contrast. Not only staying positive, but being genuine about it. Letting people know that you will remain positive and optimistic, despite their attempts at bringing you down. I know it might sounds ridiculous, but I think that will get people’s attention and cause them to ask deeper questions.
